Top 5 Anime TV Shows - lewistalkinganime

So I've done a top 5 poll on my Instagram @lewistalkinganime, and today I wanted to give an in-depth explanation of my results. I'll be adding some honourable mentions here too.

5: Violent Evergarden - Reality Check

If you have not watched it, the show is about a person who just got out of the war, and is currently working as an auto-memory doll - whose job is to send out letters to people who request her services.

At first, Violent Evergarden is a show I've always wanted to watch. And I am glad that I watched it. It's not like the so-called 'typical anime' which you would watch. It takes a difference in the storytelling element. For me, the storyline-telling element is what makes it enjoyable to watch. Each episode gives you an insight into what Violent was like in the war and how she's coping with herself post-war. She experiences the twists and turns of life, and how she's trying her best to cope with real life.

I would say it's my personal favourite because it's a different type of Anime I like to watch. Me, I am a fan of those Anime which have a lot of action - to name a few, series such as Tokyo Ghoul, Demon Slayer, and more.

4: Cyberpunk Edgerunners - Welcome To The Future.

Probably one of the best Anime in 2022 I would say. Where can I start with this? Well, the story is about David, who's only 17 years old, who is trying to survive in this futuristic city.

To be honest with you, when I first heard about this show, I heard it from my friends. When they said the word 'Cyberpunk', I thought they were talking about the game 'Cyberpunk 2077'. I wasn't paying that much attention to it, but I am glad that I watch it. The first episodes alone get you hooked on it straight away. The story drags you to the life of David Martinez - he goes through twists and turns along the way, and you get to see how he evolves as a person.

But I would say the standout for me is the characters. Whether they are the main characters or not, they have that certain personality trait. My character in the show is Rebecca - just imagine a super bad shit crazy girl, well, she is the one who will meet the criteria of that. Not only characters like her but characters such as Lucy, Maine are some of my personal favourites. Overall, they did a good job with each character.

Considering this came out almost a year ago, hats off to Studio Trigger.

3: Tokyo Ghoul - Innocent To Not So Innocent

Expect the unexpected. Expect some bumpy rides ahead. Long story short, you have Kanenki, a college student, who goes on a date. He's like your typical college student - but something happens... I mean, if you have seen it, you already know what I mean.

If I were to have a rank where I would judge an Anime show on its first episode, I would say this is up there. I mean, you have three seasons of this series - but the first episode alone has already got me hooked on this show the first time I watched it. Each episode offers something unique - no episode is left 'uncompleted'. Unless they are building up to something significant.

Still, to this day, I have the intro of Tokyo Ghoul stuck in my head. Music, characters, plot, this is the film for you.

Truly one of the great shows out there.

2: Terror in Resonance - First Connection

One of the first Anime series I've watched. The story involves a series of bombings which happen around the Tokyo area.

For me, the music is my standout in the show. The music has a dark and sinister vibe to it - which helps paints a picture of the storyline, which you can say has some 'dark moments' in the film. Each character has their upbringing which helps build that connection with the audience.

Suppose I were to tell you that bunch of bombings that are happening around the city, it might sound like a 'cliché' story to you. But then again, don't judge a book by its cover. The more episodes you watch, the more you want to learn more.

Just watch it. It offers you a different type of anime.

1: Cowboy Bebop - Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

Not going to lie, I never liked the first three episodes of this series. But then again, do not just a book by its cover. It might be tedious at first, but it'll get very interesting as you go by.

Jett and Spike, the two characters are Bounty characters who are living paycheck-to-paycheck, and they are willing to do anything to get by. The standout for this series is the use of jazz music. You usually don't add jazz music to a show. But I respect the decision to add jazz to it. Especially when some scenes can get very intense. It's something you don't see, but when it's done perfectly, it works like a charm.

The story is not like your typical 'straightforward' story, but once you piece it together, you'll get a better understanding of it. The story with the other characters helps with making the series enjoyable. For me, I am a fan of Jet. He's just seen as that person you don't want to mess with. Especially the friendship he has with Spike. You can almost relate to the pair of them in a real-life situation.

Don't judge, just watch. You won't be disappointed

Honourable Mentions

Whilst looking for a new show to watch, I pondered on this show. It certainly has an interesting and unique storyline to it.

Sakuta Azusagawa, a student, ponders upon a 'Bunny Girl' and started to develop feelings for her. But here's the catch - only he can see this person. Mai Sakurajima, a person who is in secondary school is a celebrity in Japan.

So after explaining the story, you might think it's a typical love story - a student falls for a girl, and they fall in love. Well, somewhat it is true, but this is where it gets interesting. Sakuta is suffering from a weird syndrome which people who are suffering from puberty, and Mai is invisible to the public. So only he can see her.

It's a complicated mess. I do recommend the movie, but watch the series first to get an understanding.

Quintessential Quintuplets

On a good day, this show would be in my top 5.

You might think that this anime is 'one of those types of anime'. However, I enjoyed the series. It's about five sisters who are not excelling in their studies. Their father hires a tutor to help with their studies, but each of the girls has little to no interest in their studies.

I like how each character has their character development - each character has their own thing which they excel in. You can see throughout the film how they develop as individuals. You can say with the simple storyline put in place, the humour side is one of the things which excels in this show. It showcases the journey of how the girls go through challenges to excel in their studies.

If you were to give me a top 10 list of TV shows, this show would be in my top 10 list.

Giant Killing

If you don't know me as a person, I am a football fan. I use to play it, and when my friend @thefilmmajor recommended this series to me, I enjoyed it.

We all like an underdog story. Take a few examples in the sporting world: Leicester City winning the Premier League in 2016, Japan winning against South Africa in the Rugby world cup in 2015, and another example could be how Saudi Arabia beat Argentina in the World Cup in 2022.

Well, the story is about a team who is a sleeping giant and used to be one of the big teams in Japanese football. Fans are turning against them, and they want to change. They bring a coach who has had successful stints in England to try to turn their fortunes around.

If you watch any type of sports, we all like a good underdog story. And the passion which it brings when you get behind your favourite team, and see them win. But no matter what, win or lose, you'll still support them till the end.
