Day 12/31 - To Every You I’ve Loved Before: Choose Your Ending, Pt.2

Director: Jun Matsumoto

Year: 2022

Genre: Romance/Drama

Continuing from the previous part, this is the second follow-up review. After watching this version of the film, it's somewhat different. It's essentially choosing what type of ending you want depending on what film you watch first.

Koyomi has enrolled into a college following the divorce of his parents - something which happened in the previous film. He's a smart kid but finds it a challenge to make any friends. He then meets another person, Kazune, who is his classmate and eventually falls in love, and grows old together.

So, the main differences which I found out about this film are that Koyomi has a family with Kazune, and Shiori is almost like a ghost due to her body not adapting to the main world that Koyomi is living in. And also, Koyomi chooses to live with his mother.

In terms of how the story was told, you had elements of twists and turns which was a common theme in the film. The romance was at its strongest with most of the scenes, followed by the sci-fi.

This film also mainly focuses on the aspect of seeing Koyomi in the later years of his life - especially seeing what he is like when he's at college and how he has his son. Not to say it's a contrast to what he was like as a young kid, but you can see how life has changed him in certain ways.

It's a nice feature to see what the life of Koyomi would be like and it was certainly a surprise not seeing Shiori in from the past film and perhaps the pair of them would live happily ever after. There were some bits of the film where the pair met each other,

I would say that since it's the first time you combined two films into one story, it wasn't well executed in my opinion but it's still something with proper execution done, it'll for sure be something for the future.

As previously mentioned in the first part of this article, I still would like to do an in-depth study on this film, due to its complexity of storytelling; however, that's where I give credit for a movie.

When watching a film, sometimes it's good for a film to make you question why this happened and what reasons took place it. It keeps you interested in the movie and you dedicate the time to find out what goes on.

With that being said, I was not disappointed in watching the film. Whilst watching it, it made me curious to find out what's going to happen and what things have happened for the story to have an impact. But I just feel that I still need to know more about it, hence, this won't be the last time this film will be featured on my account.
