Day 8/31 - Pompo: The Cinéphile: Lights, Camera, Action!

Updated: Dec 9, 2023

Director: Takayuki Hirao

Year: 2021

Genre: Drama

A film for filmmakers and dream-getters. I have dreams of becoming a filmmaker, and this film is just the perfect one to showcase what it takes to become a filmmaker.

You see a famous producer by the name of Pompo, who is planning to write a film and she gives the job to her assistant, Gene, who has an eye for cinema, and she wants him to direct the film.

As a fellow filmmaker myself, watching it reminds me what it takes to make it as a filmmaker. The struggles, the rejection, the hours etc are some of the things we have to go through. I might feel a bit biased for liking this film because of how I want to be a filmmaker and this film is like a perfect film for me to relate to.

Even if you're not a filmmaker, it doesn't mean people can relate to the film itself; however, you can think of ways to achieve your goals and dreams.

I'm sure watching this film can be a film that is not common for your typical anime film, but I respect the story of it being different. Sure it's not your Shinkai film or your typical romance and action film but I like the uniqueness of this film. The story is just something you don't think of and I just like it because of that.

Certain scenes will make you relate to what Gene is facing and you're able to relate it to your everyday life.

Despite this film not being your typical anime film, it's a new sort of film that I suggest everyone to watch.
