Day 31/31 - Pale Cocoon: Stunning And Unique

Director:

Year: 2006

Genre: Sci-fi/Drama

When watching the first few minutes of this film, the camera movement seems quite seamless. The shots and everything about it are one of the things which caught my attention.

The story involves Riko, a person who is part of an analysis department and is living in an underground colony - a place where they only live and he's quite intrigued by what images he gets due to what's left on the earth now. He then meets Riko, who spends her time lying at this certain spot and the pair of them eventually meet.

Firstly, I just wanted to talk about how amazing the visuals and cinematography look like. The amount of detailing which takes place is second to none. A film which came out in 2006 and the visuals looking like this, imagine if this film was remastered. Regarding the cinematography, there are some unique shots which you tend not to see in a typical anime film and it just looks amazing.

Secondly, the narrative. Believe it or not, this film won Best Screenplay at the Sapporo International Short Film Festival and Market, which I agree with. The total duration of the film is about 25 minutes and it doesn't feel like 25 minutes. It almost feels like 60 minutes made into 25 minutes. Imagine the wonders this film could achieve if it was 60 minutes. The film involves Riko's obsession with his findings on what is left on this earth and discovering findings based on a video/picture which was sent to the two characters.

Finally, the film is an interesting film to watch, it might take a bit of time ti dissect what is the story telling; however, the concept of the film makes it interesting to find out more.
