Day 30/31 - I Want to Eat Your Pancreas: An Emotional Roller Coaster

Director: Shinichiro Ushijima

Year: 2018

Genre: Romance/Drama

Wow. The emotional value is high in this film. Watching it is another thing, but processing it is another.

This film is one of the films which has been highly recommended to me, and today is the day I watch it. The story is about a girl, Sakura, suffering from a pancreatic disorder and having some days to live, when she meets Haruki, a boy who does not have many friends.

Be prepared for moments where there are going to be twists and turns which showcases why this film is good. It is a simple story about a girl who is going to die anytime soon and wants to make her last days an enjoyable one. Haruki and Sakura became friends when Haruki read her diary by accident. It is amazing how Sakura is still having this positive mindset and nothing is letting anything get in her way. It almost reminds me of a similar storyline which Summer Ghost had too with one of the characters dying of cancer. Its message is yet powerful and a powerful one - living every day like it's going to be your last. Life is short, anyone can go at any time. Hence, through Sakura's actions, it can teach everyone a lesson.

The way the story was told in a nice order makes it curious for me to know what's going on in the film. A simple start which shows the diary falling and how the pair become friends along the way. In a storytelling method, I like a simple method of setting the story and also, a complex method but you can piece it together. The

The main characters written for the film were perfect and had a good balance with each other. Sakura is that type of happy-go-lucky person and Haruki, at first, seems like this shy boy who's not confident with himself. Haruki's type of character is the type which makes the film enjoyable to watch. It's like having that friend who is always in a positive mood no matter what. Haruki is another relatable character which almost everyone can somewhat relate to. Having a cast which makes the audience enjoy is important in this film. The way the story is written makes it an appealing reason for a good film.

I'm finally glad I finally got to watch this film. It's for sure a solid film and I have to say it, this could potentially be in my top 10 films. Top 5 films perhaps? Well, maybe. The simple story and the way it's explained is the thing which excelled in the moments. Certain moments of the films made you think about what's going to go on and some moments which made the film good.
