Genre: Fantasy/Drama
One of the films which I like is its visuals, cinematography, and narrative is something I like about the film.
This film is focused on Violet being in charge of Violet, a student in an all-girls school with her finding challenges of trying to connect with her. It's a bit of a different story compared to the special and the TV show. The main theme is writing where Violet slowly improves with it, and how writing can have an impact on a person.
When watching the film, it almost feels like watching two stories into one film. One focuses on Violet, and the other focuses on Isabella. It's a unique way of combining the two stories and being able to explain them both well and with a strong emotional connection to the film.
So, Violet's side focuses on how her development as a character grows and how she faces the challenge of dealing with Isabella as a client. This film in particular shows how Violet is being able to become more than an Auto Memory Doll - she's slowly but surely become a person who understands someone emotionally and able to build a friendship with Isabella. Not only that but there's a caring side which you start to see her develop - especially with Isabella and later with Taylor. It's like having that big sister vibe.
Isabella (aka Amy before she changed her name), a character in this film shows their hardship as a young person and how she, in a way, adopted a younger sister (not really but someone in her care), shows how Isabella has that caring side that no one knows about - she's presented as the character who doesn't like Violet; however, throughout the film, you can see a different side of her. Isabella reminds me of the saying 'never judge a book by its cover', sometimes people show another emotion in front of humans; however, sometimes it takes a while for people to understand what that person is actually like.
However, Taylor, the young girl in the film is a standout character. Being an orphan at a young age and being willing to take up a job at a young age shows how she's adapted to what's it like being an adult at a young age. Her relationship with Isabella is something that shows the love and bond that the pair has and it shows off how Isabella is a young person who can be a caring person. Even the scene when the pair were separated shows the bond they had.
The emotional connection is strong with certain scenes showing how Violet understands what is love, Isabella taking care of Taylor, and just heartfelt moments where it has that feel-good factor to it - which gives credit to the story in keeping the audience attached to the film. The emotion is strong due to how the character has that element which makes the story interesting.
Connecting two stories into one takes a lot of planning and if executed properly can make a film enjoyable. The characters had that element which helps build emotional connections with the audience through their respective upbringing which gives the audience a better understanding of the story and a better reason to live the film.
The cinematography is a solid 9.5/10 for me. Wide shots of the old building, the scenery of the countryside and just how each shot is composed are other reasons why this film stands out to me. Telling a story through visuals is one thing, but the backing of the solid narrative makes it a treat to watch - Violet Evergaden is certainly a film which nailed that element.
Its visuals with the European architecture are one of the unique things of the film. It almost
gives me the European style of the olden times - which I certainly liked. I've watched it in Japanese but honestly speaking, I feel like watching it in English just hits the spot. Nevertheless, some languages have their advantages when watching a film or TV show.
With that being said, There's a reason why Violet Evergaden is well-known - it showcases the ratings - especially this film received a 9.1/10 rating on AnimeSuge. Elements such as the narrative, cinematography and the visuals make it a joy to watch. There were elements where the story touched you emotionally and it's credited to how the story was told.
PS: Don't cry when watching the film. That's all I'm going to say!
Rating: 9.5/10
