Paprika, one of Satoshi Kon's finest works. Released in 2006, dreams and to be able to cause nightmares in each person's dream.
When watching this film, I thought that this film was a kid's film. Well, that was what I thought for the film's first five minutes. Wait until you watch more of it, you start to think what type of film is this?
It is almost like a nightmare in real life which makes you think about whether it’s real or not - especially in some certain scenes where you think this is happening in the film, but it turns out it's just a flashback or it's something else. When watching this film, it mainly focuses on the element, 'dreams', which is a simple element and it's like something we humans can do - which is being able to dream whilst sleeping.
I also feel like this film mixes child's play and nightmares which adults would have together - such as having big toys which look so innocent but it turns out to be a nightmare for people.
If I were to rank this film out of Satoshi Kon's film selection, I would place this very high on my place.
With that being said, if you are a fan of psychological thrillers, this film is a must-watch. The story makes it unpredictable and you do not know what's going to happen next. This for sure is a masterpiece.
