Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted. So, I am beginning a series where I watch one film every day. So today, I am going to talk about Perfect Blue - this film has a special place in my heart. It's the first ever anime film I have watched. Rewatching Perfect Blue is always a thing I like to do once in a while. I
Whilst rewatching the film again, you tend to pick up certain things which you might’ve not realised when watching it the first time. This film in a way showcases a true representation of what the creative industry is like - such as having to deal with unwanted attention, stalkers, doing things which you don’t like etc - which is still relevant in today's society.
The duality is one of the elements of the film which I liked. You have the evil side and the good side - as shown when Mima changes her occupation to an actress from an actress. But the evil side could have an effect because of what is Mima’s suffering from - this mental disorder - an identity order/multiple personality disorder when the crimes were taking place. I like it when a film talks about elements of mental health, or something similar to it and don't make it obvious.
Its storytelling is something I certainly enjoyed whilst watching the film, followed by the visuals and the music used were just perfect for each moment.
One thing I realised is the psychedelic element which excels from the recent hit from this year, Oshi No Ko. They have similar elements to each other - where the show involves a pop idol followed by Perfect Blue. Followed by certain major moments happening in each respective show/film. Not only Oshi No Ko, but the spin-off of this film, Black Swan, especially the scene in the bath tub.
Overall, its complex story, visuals, cinematography and music are some of the reasons why I loved this film. Not going to lie, I thought this film was not going to be like dark and stuff. I thought it was just a simple story about a person wanting to be a pop star, but then again, don't judge a book by its cover.
wei gila....smashing ah
